Global Anglican Future Conference...

The 2008 Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) in Jerusalem concluded on the Feast of St Peter and St Paul (June 29), in a spirit of unity and hope. Over 1200 attending clerical and lay delegates (including 291 Bishops), representing a large majority of the world-wide Anglican Communion, unanimously and enthusiastically approved a Statement On the Global Anglican Future that had been drafted during the conference.   At the heart of this Statement is the Jerusalem Declaration, a 14-point confessional commitment to a process that will hopefully guide the path of Anglicans in the future. Existing structures and mechanisms, which had been erected for the same purpose of unity in expressing and living the true Faith, were examined and found to have failed. Delegates, in a labor of love and prayer, moved by the Spirit in unity, wrote and adopted this new approach for defending the ancient, abiding, and true orthodox Faith, which proclaims salvation through Christ Jesus our Lord who is Faithful and True.   A particular blessing to us in the United States is the acceptance by the GAFCON Primates' Council of Common Cause Partnership (CCP) as a nucleus of a new province in North America. That is, we in the U.S. have a green light to use CCP to build an officially recognized North American province of the Anglican Communion, and this province could remain federated until it resolves differences between jurisdictions that have joined. Building this province is a monumental task, probably our last chance to "get it right."
